Masks and Shells
Masks and Shells
You take on another shape,
Another name
Show it to the world,
And say you are just the same.
You display scales, so fake,
With a smile, so real,
But that mouth has been carved
And could never hold a meal.
You are loved for your mask,
And that love may feel good,
But when that shell is removed,
Will you be understood?
'Cause you can't hide forever,
And you can't always play a part.
'Cause the time will come, one day
When they see what's in your heart,
And leave you behind.
